Families with children and art and music lovers have about 12 free events to choose from this weekend. Here are the highlights:
Art lovers can explore galleries for free this Friday in Little Havana, and Saturday in Wynwood and the Perez Art Museum Miami in downtown. The Little Havana Art Walk extends the opening hours of galleries well into the night Friday and audiences can meet artists and see new works, especially those that embody the lively colors of Cuban and Caribbean art. There’s also a free art party called “It’s Your Town,” courtesy of New Amsterdam Vodka less than a mile from the Art Walk. The Wynwood Art Walk on Saturday offers audiences art, street performances and a full lineup of food trucks. Area galleries also are open well into the night on Saturday. In addition, the Perez Art Museum Miami offers free admission this Saturday and participants can create their own surreal sculpture like the ones on display.
Classical music lovers have free music choices this weekend. The Chopin Foundation presents its final “Chopin for All” free concert of the series with 18-year-old pianist Eric Lu on Saturday in Fort Lauderdale and Sunday in Coral Gables. Also on Sunday, the Alhambra Orchestra will perform “Natural Wonders,” Copland’s Appalachian Spring and Beethoven’s “Pastoral” Symphony in Coconut Grove.
For those who prefer jazz, celebrate Haitian Flag Day this Sunday in Miami Beach with Jean Chardavoine’s Creole Jazz Project.
