Surf flick double feature

By Brett O'Bourke

Tonight, the South Florida chapter of the Surfrider Foundation serves-up a double feature of surf movies and a smorgasbord of gourmet dishes, Kona Brewing Co. beer and Barefoot Wine.

First up is, Echo Beach, which documents the emergence of high performance surfing and entrepreneurship in 1980s Newport Beach. Orange County quickly became the focal point of the surf industry and the epicenter for young surf companies such as Quiksilver, Stussy, Schroff Rip Curl, McCoy and Wave Tools.

Finishing off the night is Spectacular Adventures (check out the trailer above), a sun-drenched thrash fest of surf breaks from the Galapagos Islands, the West Indies, Panama, Costa Rica, Hawaii, the Caribbean and North Carolina by a motley crew of East Coast surfers, headlined by the likes of Asher Nolan, Cory Lopez, Ben Bourgeois, Dylan Graves, Alek Parker, Gabe Kling, Zander Morton, Brendan Buckley, Mike Gleason, Michael Dunphy, Brett Barley, Jesse Hines, Alejandro Moreda, Shea Lopez, Sam Hammer, and Brian Toth.

Raffle prizes will be given away from sponsors such as Quicksliver, Island Water Sports, F1st Surf Shop, Catch a Wave Surf Shop (which will raffle off a brand new board) and others.
