Stokeswood at The Stage, cheap beer at Art Walk, Circus party at SLS
Low-endie group Stokeswood takes The Stage, Gramps provides cheap beer to Art Walk patrons, Hyde Beach gets theatrical.
Atlanta band Stokeswood aren't just musical, they're wordsmiths too, coining the phrase "low-endie" to describe their brand of music, a fusion of "pumping synthesizers, powerful vocals and irresistible dance vibe" is the official description. Stokeswood should probably keep their night jobs, because low-endie doesn't do justice to the music and you can hear that for yourself when the hit The Stage Miami (170 NE 38th St.) on Sept. 13. “When Stokeswood hits South Florida, we prefer to bring our show to the The Stage Miami,” says co-founder and guitarist Mark Godwin. “The area has always been wonderful to us and its dance-oriented vibe and amazing people have actually helped cultivate the new direction of our music.” Also playing that night is Miami electro dub duo WARP9. DJ Afro Monk will spin trip hop, future bass and IDM before, between and after the acts. Heineken is $4. Doors open at 10 p.m., admission is free before 10 p.m. and $10 after.
Early Bird Gets Cheap Beer
Being late isn't always fashionable, especially when Duvel is offering its lighter, draft-only Duvel Single at rock bottom, Beat the Clock prices from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, September 14 at the Wynwood art Walk Beer Garden at Gramps (176 NW 24th St.). Get there from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and the beer is just $2; from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. it's $3 and from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. it goes up to $5. Food will be available from Sparky's Roadside Barbeque and the first 50 people who do buy a $5 Duvel will get a limited edition "art glass" featuring designs by artists from around the world. Stranded at the Drive-In
For those who still aren't convinced that Wynwood is Miami's hippest 'hood, consider the grand opening of even hipper Austin-based drive-in theater Blue Starlite Mini-Urban Drive In, which is previewing its cinematic coolness starting on Sept. 18. This new Miami location next to O Cinema (90 NW 29th St.) accommodates up to 20 cars per show and ten reserved tables with seating areas. Both come with window speakers. Prices vary per spot, but there are reserved ticket packages from $25 to $60. Gas not included. Concession snacks are also available for purchase. While the grand opening isn't officially until Oct. 9, pre-screenings start at 8:30 p.m. Sept. 18 with Pretty in Pink; 8:30 p.m. Sept. 19 with Fast Times at Ridgemont High and The Wild Life; 8:30 p.m. Sept. 20 with The Princess Bride and 8:30 p.m. Sept. 21 with Grease. The grand opening flick is Moon over Miami. Go figure. For schedules, pricing and more information, go to http://www.miamiurbandrivein.com/.

FDR at the Delano (1685 Collins Ave., Miami Beach) celebrates the birthday of the Delano's Director of Marketing, former South Beach club kingpin Chris Paciello at 11 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16 with a performance by Paciello's fellow Staten Island homey, Method Man of Wu Tang Clan fame.
