Stay in with sports bar classics at Rendezvous in Davie

The NBA championship may be over, but that doesn’t mean we’ve lost our appetite for sports grub. We’re still loading up on chicken wings, burgers, barbecue and plenty of comfort options at the new Rendezvous University Bar & Grill in Davie.

Open since March in the former Lefty’s space, the grill is a sibling to the waterfront Rendezvous at Marina Bay. If you stop by for takeout Wednesday through Saturday, you can listen to local musicians while waiting for your order.

Most popular are the jumbo chicken wings with a variety of sauces, including the spicy Moe’s, which combines teriyaki, hot sauce and garlic. The crisp, coconut-crusted fish skewers (pictured), made with haddock and served with a mango aioli, were a hit at our house. Or share the smoked fish dip, a tasty blend of mahi and king fish.

If you like, big, messy burgers with lots of extras, go for the char-grilled Rendezvous Burger, made with brisket and ground beef, topped with roasted red peppers, sautéed mushrooms, a cluster of fried onions and a sprinkling of Gorgonzola.

The 200-seat grill offers house-made soups and specials like our grandmotherly meatloaf and mashed potatoes. But you will also find healthier alternatives like turkey burgers, salads, pan-seared tuna, grilled fish sandwiches and raw bar items.

Both Rendezvous restaurants offer free shuttle service for anyone staying at a nearby hotel.
