10 South Florida names made the cut for the list of 2010 James Beard Award semifinalists. In the running…

  • Myles Chefetz (Prime 112, Nemo, et al.) for outstanding restaurateur
  • Sam Gorenstein (BLT Steak at the Betsy) for rising star chef of the year
  • Eos at the Viceroy for best new restaurant
  • Solea at the W South Beach for best new restaurant
  • Hedy Goldsmith (Michael's Genuine) for outstanding pastry chef
  • Zach Bell (Café Boulud at the Brazilian Court) for best chef in the South
  • Dean James Max (3030 Ocean at the Marriott Harbor Beach) for best chef in the South
  • Philippe Ruiz (Palme d'Or at the Biltmore) for best chef in the South
  • Michael Schwartz (Michael's Genuine) for best chef in the South
  • Wessel (Red Light) for best chef in the South

 

The 20 semifinalists in each category will be winnowed to five finalists March 22. The awards will be presented May 3 in New York. Click here for a complete list of semifinalists.
