Shoji Sushi brings high-end sushi to South Beach

The goods: Reopened under new ownership (Prime 112 founder Myles Chefetz closed the restaurant a year ago), Shoji brings high-end sushi back to South of Fifth.

Ambience: Cozy chaise lounges, deep pink walls and sparkling new plating create a refreshed feel, while a familiar menu and faces (head chef Basdeo Badal returns for his 11th year) add a neighborhood vibe.

The grub: Upscale sushi and traditional Japanese eats. Seasonal specials are reportedly en route, but old favorites hold court for now. Start with salty edamame, creamy, crispy rock shrimp or garlicky hamachi carpaccio. Rolls include the Shoji special (tempura lobster, avocado, shishito, cilantro, masago and kimchee), Erika’s roll (hamachi, spicy mayo, avocado, masago and cilantro) and the citrus salmon (avocado, masago, kombu, yuzo chile paste and lemon zest - pictured). Cooked food fans can enjoy tempura, skewered kushiyaki and black cod misoyaki.

Verdict: A local favorite returns to South Beach.
