Save the Date: The Setai
By Aurora RodrĂguez
It's been awhile since you and your honey have gone on a date in South Beach -- for many reasons. Maybe it's the fact that the last time around it wasn't much of a date, but rather a hangout with friends from out of town that ended with you and your loved one babysitting them after too many Call a Cab's at Wet Willies.
Erase those painful SoBe memories and replace them with a positive date night experience. The Setai promises a blanket of serenity in which you and your sweetie can wrap yourselves as you massage, wine and dine yourself far, far away from the beach hustle and bustle. The location boasts an Asian-like escape dressed in natural colors, materials and light, which are a welcome retreat from the usual candy-colored Art Deco scene. Here's to relaxation in unexpected spots.
Come casually dressed and with a bag packed with your fancy duds for later. First, though, head to the Spa at The Setai for a couples treatment. Each suite features two beds, a sauna and private shower with views of the hotel's pool and the Atlantic. There, you and your sweetie can enjoy a Balinese massage followed by a dip in a rose petal bath. Lie back and nibble on fresh fruits and sip on freshly brewed green tea.
Once you and your honey are showered down, it's time to grab a cozy drink at The Setai's lobby bar, where you can snuggle and catch up in style. The mother-of-pearl encrusted bar features an extensive wine list, rare rums such as Captain Morgan's Private Stock (perfect served on the rocks) and signature martinis such as their delectably spicy Chili Passion Martini. Feeling like sipping al fresco instead? Step outside - cocktail in hand - to the hotel's serene water-surrounded courtyard.
After drinks it's time for dinner at The Restaurant at the Setai. Dine on family-style items served on authentic Asian crockery while sinking into the plush seating in the airy dining room. Chef Jonathan Wright's signature dishes - such as Sashimi of Hamachi served with blood oranges and an array of tender meats simmered and made into curry dishes - will have you craving the perfect wine pairing from their extensive wine list. End dinner with a selection of chocolate-drizzled petit fours from the chef, white dessert wine and a cup of steaming hot java right before heading home to reminisce of the perfect evening far away from bottle service and cranky bouncers.
The sweet deal: Mention this story when you bring your other half to The Setai or call to make a reservation for the both of you at the spa and get 10% off a spa service.
