Run the ING Half Marathon

 

There's no need to train alone for January's ING Half Marathon when the city is full of running groups to keep you motivated.

January 30, 2011. That is the day. The ING Half Marathon. 

If you think you are going to get off your couch some time in December and start training for the race, then you better have an IV and a bottle of Advil waiting for you at the finish line. Do yourself a favor and tackle your New Year's resolution to run the 13.1 miles by starting the training now. Here are a few places you can go around town to train for the ING Half Marathon and others with real runners who will make the experience less excruitiating and perhaps even fun.

SOBE Pilates

Mondays and Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. meet at Ocean Drive and 5th Street for SoBe Pilates' Running Clinic. It's designed to get you off your behind and running a 5k in 8 weeks. That will get you almost halfway to the end of a half marathon. For more information call 305-763-8878.

 

Team FootWorks

Runners of all fitness levels flock to Team Footworks to get whipped into shape for races all over Miami. Training for the ING Half Marathon starts Saturday, September 26 at 6 a.m. from the South Miami Hospital Adult Education Center located at 7401 SW 62 Ave in South Miami. The program will run you $145-$255, and will give you access to the Team Footworks Hospitality Village on race day. It might be a nice place to pass out. Team In Training 

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Southern Florida Chapter Team In Training has groups in Miami-Dade, Broward, Monroe, Lee and Collier Counties that train for road races all over the state of Florida to raise funds for their cause. If you are interested in joining them to prepare for the ING Half Marathon visit their website at www.teamintraining.org.

Miami Fit

Though they started their training the last week of August, you can still get in shape with Miami Fit, a group of runners/walkers all training for the ING Miami races.  They follow a 27 week schedule, with group runs weekly from Miami Lakes Park West (15101 NW 82nd Ave., Miami Lakes) and a rigorous workout regimen to follow at home. Fogo Running

For the folks that live way out west, Fogo Running is based out of the Mary & Dave Alper Center Jewish Community Center (11011 SW 104 St.) and begins training for the Half Marathon on Saturday, October 9th. Runners will also participate in weekly training sessions Monday evenings at Tropical Park (beginning October 4th) and a weekly walking session Thursday evenings at the Cancer Community Center (beginning October 7th).
