11/30/2010
The Surfrider Foundation Miami Chapter invites locals and visitors to Restore the Dunes on Saturday, Dec. 4. They plan to remove exotic Scaevola plants, an invasive plant species and replanting native flora in an effort to restore our coastal dunes. Healthy dunes are needed not only to retain sand in wind and storm events, but also to provide a unique habitat for plants and animals indigenous to South Florida.
This will be the fourth dune restoration project by Surfrider Foundation Miami Chapter. Volunteers will participate in the restoration of the coastal dunes between 85th and 86th Streets east of Collins Avenue.
WHEN: Saturday, December 4 from 10a.m to 1 p.m.
WHERE: North Shore Open Space Park, 8501 Collins Ave, Miami Beach; more information at www.surfridermiami.org. RSVP at miami@surfrider.org
