Paula Deen’s Poker Party

Just got back from the Paris Theater where Paula Deen threw her Poker Party last night. Gotta say we were big fans of the very chill event that didn’t have oodles of people fighting for food or drinks. The setup was very old school Vegas, complete with tunes from the Rat Pack playing and videos of Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr on the big screen.

The gambling, all for fun and charity of course, was a great touch. Paula said she wanted a party where people could participate and not just stand around and drink, and her choice was right on the money (well, play money).

Who needs tickets?

As we left the Burger Bash, there was a gentleman in a nice suit who had a string of tickets for sale. They were for Paula Deen’s Poker Party and he was selling them for $50, a third of the face value. Hmmmm, wonder if that’s a good gamble or not? Will update you later.

Too.. Many... Burgers.... Can't... Keep.... Eating....

Love Shack Burgers

Eight of the 18 burger stands had ties to South Florida, including five from Miami – Bistro One at the Ritz, BLT Burger, Joe Allen, Morton’ The Steakhouse and Prime 112.

For our tastes, Johnny V from Fort Lauderdale and Prime 112 had the tastiest burgers, and they didn’t overwhelm you with their portions (I mean, how are we supposed to try them all if the combined portions are bigger than the size of our head?).

Some other stands had pieces that were just too big (The Burger Joint in NY), too much bread (Macy’s), too much sauce (Love Shack from Fort Worth, Texas) or were trumped by their side items (like the chocolate shake from Shake Shack of New York and the fries from Hitching Post III of Buellton, Ca.)

Viva Las Paper Towels

Viva Paper Towels

Thank goodness for paper towels. My hands are getting sticky eating all these burgers, and then grabbing my Amstel Light for a quick drink. Evey table had them – what a great idea.

Uncorked: SoBe Wine and Food Festival Blog

uncorked image

Welcome to our oh-so comprehensive Wine & Food Festival blog. Whether you sprung for that $300 Bubble Q ticket or not, we've taken it upon ourselves to bring you the full report on as many events as we can handle before going into a food-induced coma (we're guessing the alcohol won't help, either). If Paris shows up and scarfs a NY strip, you'll know; if the Naked Chef really gets naked, you'll find the pics here; and if we end up at an Anthony Bourdain afterparty? Well, we might just keep that one to ourselves.
