The goods: The recently renovated Blue Moon Hotel debuts Fix, a polished Art Deco spot serving refined American favorites.
Ambience: There’s a white marble bar, antique brickwork and chalkboards for diners to decorate, plus antique cameras to capture a “fixed” moment in time.
The grub: Breakfast items and global dishes. Chef David Welch (Verdea) combines diner classics with Cuban paninis and Peruvian chicken. Prices are reasonable: breakfast items average $12, burgers and small plates $10-$18 with mains the mid-$20s.
Sandwiches include oyster po’ boy, lobster and crab cake, Asian tuna wrap, a hefty lamb burger with tzatiki and olive tapenade, and seven types of sliders like the belly-filling short rib and ropa vieja topped with a crispy rice cake. Pancakes come in apple-cardamom and chocolate chip, and there’s a pork belly Benedict.
Chimay and Arrogant Bastard on draft highlight the craft-beer focus, and there’s a nice selection of aged rums by the glass. Desserts include Ice Box Café’s red velvet and chocolate bomb cakes and Welch’s Rice Krispie-crusted French toast.
Verdict: Equal parts gourmet diner and South Beach bistro
