Ultra announces new security director a week before the City of Miami is scheduled to determine its future at the next commission meeting
Ultra Music Festival organizers announced today that soon-to-be retired Miami Beach Police Chief Raymond Martinez will become security director for the annual electronic music event in downtown Miami.
Miami city leaders threatened to oust Ultra after a crowd at this year's festival stormed a fence, trampling a security guard and leaving her with life-threatening injuries.
In March, Martinez announced he would retire early. His departure comes at a time of political and administrative changes in Miami Beach.
Miami city commissioners will discuss Ultra's fate on Thursday, April 24 at 10 a.m.
