The who: Fashion designer Roberto Cavalli teams up with KNR Hospitality Group (The Dutch) and chef Stefano Mazzi in his first Miami restaurant.
The space: The former DeVito’s has been made to look like Cavalli’s Tuscan villa. Décor includes large photos of the designer and celebrity friends plus cheetah- and floral-print linens from Cavalli’s home collection. A second-story bottle-service lounge prominently displays Cavalli’s self-titled vodka. By 11 p.m, the place is swarming with model types.
The dishes: Upscale Tuscan. Prices are steep: Starters $14-$25, pastas $16-$34 and mains $27-$50.
Dinner starts with crusty Italian bread and olive oil, and moves onto small plates like Tuscan beef tartar, yellowfin tuna with ginger and avocado, lobster consommé with caviar, polenta with mushrooms and roasted beet salad.
Pastas, made in-house, include spaghetti with lobster and Sardinian artichokes and tricolore gnocchi with royal jumbo lump crab. Main dishes feature a 22-ounce dry-aged Florentine steak, local grouper Livornese style and Spanish sole with white asparagus.
Desserts include a twist on tiramisu with espresso ice cream and mascarpone mousse; chocolate bomboloni (fried dough balls) with nutella cream and raspberry marmalade; coconut panna cotta with mango fresco and passion fruit sorbet.
Bottom line: You don’t have to be a supermodel to dine here, but you may run into one at Roberto Cavalli’s Italian spot.
