The goods: Bar Crudo is a small but mighty spot for cured and raw fish in Miami Beach’s South of Fifth neighborhood.
Ambience: Owner Andrea Travaglia and GM Ken Ray have created a flirty, 1960s feel with colorful tiles, a studded leather bar, yellow and mauve walls and a spacious patio.
The grub: A modern, seafood-focused, raw bar. Chef Reto Von Weissenfluh oversees a reasonably priced menu: Most plates average $11-$14 and drinks are around $12.
The menu is divided into crostinis, salads, charcuterie, cheeses, desserts and tapas-style fish dishes. Hamachi arrives with avocado puree and chorizo seasoning; scallops are served with orange infusion, lemongrass and micro sorrel, and sous-vide octopus comes with cubed sweet potatoes, edamame and rosemary sauce.
Terrestial options include a sizeable burrata salad with crostini, beef tartar with pork belly and smoked black-tea beef carpaccio.
Conclude with desserts like compressed watermelon with feta gelato or deconstructed pistachio panna cotta with pistachio brittle and honey gelee.
