Singer scheduled to perform in Miami Beach

Miami's homegrown songstress, Nicole Henry, is scheduled to release her album, So Good, So Right: Nicole Henry Live on Saturday at the Colony Theatre, which is located at 1040 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach. The jazz/pop vocalist's performance will benefit the National YoungArts Foundation, a not-for-profit that provides career assistance to emerging artists. Ticket prices range from $125 for VIP tickets, which includes a reception that begins at 6 p.m. to $45 for reserved seating for the concert that begins at 8 p.m. Noire Miami had a chance to ask Henry a few questions about her new album and about what's so good and so right in her life right now.

What do you love about singing? So many things. I love the connection I’m able to make with listeners and audiences, especially when performing live. I love how a single song can entice different emotions for different people, potentially affecting their level of understanding, acceptance or celebration of a moment. It’s amazing to be a part of that.



How would you describe your album, So Good, So Right: Nicole Henry Live?
I’ve always loved the emotionally-tinged soul, pop and rock songs that were staples of the ‘70s, and my new album pays tribute to iconic artists of that time including Bill Withers, Aretha Franklin, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, The Commodores and Gladys Knight. The artists of that decade were true craftsmen and their music had such a broad sound, accessible by people of all races. I wanted to revisit that time, and those emotions, and share them with my fans. Where did you record your album? 
I recorded the album live at Feinstein's at Loews Regency in NYC in May 8-12, 2012. What's so good and so right in your life right now?
Truly, everything is so good and so right at this moment. Everything continues to come together, as if it was always planned. I have larger audiences, more countries and larger venues. I have a larger team to help me, as I continue to collaborate with more and more people I respect. My repertoire is expanding, and I'm discovering new vocal techniques. It's all very good and getting better.



How has Miami influenced your style?

I love the fun playful attitude about Miami. It's chic, sexy, somewhat casual yet super stylish, like fashion from the '70s. That helped make this new CD project So Good, So Right: Nicole Henry Live such an obvious choice. I relate to the music, as well as the relaxed, classic, sexy style of the '70s: the flowing, feminine looks, the camisoles, the dusty rose and brown colors- that style is still perfect in Miami, today. 
Where is your favorite place to eat and drink in Miami?

Just one?! I'd have to say Meat Market. There's a balanced level of people watching and vibe, great service and consistently delicious food.

Where is your favorite place to relax in Miami? On a lounge chair by the ocean on south beach. There's nothing like listening to nature's paradise to let your mind go.
