On Aug. 3, Miami Beach’s Bass Museum of Art will host Beats After Sunset, a monthly evening of historical and contemporary art, cocktails and South Beach-style beats.
“We really like the idea that, by hosting Beats After Sunset, we are opening our doors to the community to meet and mingle with like-minded 20- to 30-year-olds and having the opportunity to view art from around the world right here on South Beach,” said Megan Riley, the museum’s director of external affairs, in an email.
Beats After Sunset occurs on the first Friday of every month.
Although the DJ for August’s Beats After Sunset is still unknown, in July the museum hosted DJ Joseph Anthony, the resident DJ at Club 50 at Viceroy Miami, a hotel in Brickell.
“With these types of events, especially when it’s a community event based on networking that ties in culture and art, music plays a huge role because it sets a nice tempo and nice vibe,” Anthony said.
The Aug. 3 event will also offer complimentary cocktails by Herradura Tequila. The mixologists and alcohol sponsors, along with the DJs, vary per Beats After Sunset events.
Riley said that she hopes Beats After Sunset guests will “enjoy our monthly happy hour while being inspired and educated through exploring the connections between our historical collections and contemporary art.”
August will mark the last time that attendees will be able to peruse four different exhibits, including an interactive Internet project where users can “erase” websites by Miami-based artist Jillian Mayer in collaboration with Eric Shoenborn. Other galleries will feature pieces by Charles LeDray, Egyptian antiques and other works from the museum’s permanent collection. The exhibitions will be different by September.
Museum members and BassPass holders will receive complimentary admission to Beats After Sunset. Admission for non-members is $8.
Beats After Sunset will take place Aug. 3 from 8 to 11 p.m. Bass Museum of Art is at 2100 Collins Ave. in Miami Beach.
Following the Bass event on Aug. 3, Chalk Ping Pong and Billiards Lounge, located at 1234 Washington Ave., will host an after party from 11 p.m. to midnight. Beats After Sunset guests will receive one complimentary beverage.
