Local designer's baubles are fashioned out of magnets.
Dafné Alleno’s baubles have a magnetic energy that draws women all over Miami to buy them. Maybe it’s because she actually uses magnets to create her jewelry or perhaps it's the fact that they are inspired by everything in the Magic City. Alleno said she draws ideas from Art Deco buildings on South Beach to the industrial modernism of the Design District to the mango tinted sunsets that color our skies.
Whatever it is, the Mexican transplant who is of French descent has celebs like Burn Notice’s Gabrielle Anwar wearing her By Dafné wrist candy to glossies like Cosmo gushing about her necklace creations. “Magnets bring you great energy, “ said Alleno. “ With a magnet clasp, you can put on your jewelry in a second.” Alleno fashions her hand-made creations using leather, silk, vermeil, gold and semi precious stones. “My jewelry is wearable and chic for women in their 20s up to 60-years-old,” she said. After two years of taking beading classes on Lincoln Road’s ART center and a year of metal making, Alleno said she was equipped to launch her eponymous brand.
The line retails from $90 up to $350. It is sold in 13 boutiques like Rebel on Biscayne, Pineda Covalin in Coconut Grove and several in Miami Beach like Violet&Grace, Atrium, Boheme and Curve Soleil.
