Fashion Week kicked off in New York City on Thursday September 9, amongst it's bevy of designers, Project Runway winner Christian Siriano unveiled his collection to a packed house of fashionistas and celebrities.
New York Times' On the Runway blogger Eric Wilson posted this about stylish designer elf: One of the joys of Fashion Week is when designers leave little notes along the front row seats explaining their inspirations for the season. Christian Siriano, at his 2 p.m. show, included a photo that showed the feet of one of his models. There was also a description of the shoes he had designed for Payless, inspired by “African, Indian and Chinese influences mixed with measures of elegant opulence.”
He even named the shoes: the Shanghai, the Mumbai, the Nairobi and the Zanzi, presumably for Zanzibar since the heel looked like a hand-carved African tribal artwork. You get the same sense of reaching out to exotic locations in Mr. Siriano’s clothes, only the destinations are daywear, sportswear and cocktail dresses, all foreign territory for a designer who made his name on “Project Runway” with over-the-top evening gowns.
