Aussie band Crowded House still with two founding members, is back together, touring with a new album, Intriguer.
Aussie band Crowded House crossed over with such international sensations as late '80s hits Don't Dream It's Over and
Something So Strong on its first self-titled album. The MTV darlings went on to do a few more records, including Recurring
Dream, which contained well-known ballads like Fall at Your Feet and Weather with You, but split in 1996. The group, still with two founding members -- lead singer Neil Finn and bass player Nick Seymour -- is back together, touring with a new album, Intriguer.
We spoke to Finn before the band's Thursday night show at Fillmore Miami Beach.
Tell us about the new record:
What inspired you?
Real life all around me, being amongst nature, wanting to make stuff that sounds beautiful.
What can fans expect from the show?
A band at the top of its game, making things up as we go and playing tunes you can sing along to.
How has your music evolved?
That's a really hard question for me to be objective about. I think it's gotten more eclectic in its influences.
Why are you called Crowded House?
I can't remember! I think it was a book title of some Romanian folk tales.
What are you listening to these days?
New Zealand [indie rock band] Con-nan Mockasin, [alternative artist] Lawrence Arabia and gig tapes of our shows -- we're always learning.
Tickets for the 8 p.m. concert at livenation.com.
