SoBe Institute of the Arts at the Riviera
On Thursday, July 8 the Riviera South Beach Hotel’s (2000 Liberty Ave.) pool garden will be transformed into a series of surreal environments to benefit the SoBe Institute of the Arts. Expect live musical performances by Latin Grammy Award Winning Artist Jorge Moreno, SoBe Arts students and faculty Rebekah Diaz and Viktor Nikolov.
For a $25 donation, guests will enjoy cocktails courtesy of Stoli vodka and delicious hors d’oeuvres catered by Kung Fu Kitchen & Sushi. Additional VIP ticket options are available including a $50 VIP table and a $200 premium VIP package for two, which includes open bar, table service and a one-night stay in a one-bedroom suite at The Riviera. Guests will also have the chance to bid on silent auction items including South Beach hotel packages, restaurant certificates, a Miami HEAT 2009-2010 team signed basketball, a VIP Dolphins ticket package and paintings from Romero Brito, to name a few.
All proceeds from the auction and event will go to support the cost of tuition and resources needed to provide all students with the same opportunity to learn and perfect their talents. Get Into the Groove
NBA Champions Alonzo Mourning and Dwyane Wade have joined forces once again to host the largest event of the summer –The Summer Groove, taking place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino (1 Seminole Way, Hollywood, Fl.) from July 14-18. In conjunction with South Florida’s premiere culinary event, Share Our Strength’s 2010 Taste of the Nation Miami (2010 TOTN), slated for Thursday, July 29 at Fairmont Turnberry Isle, longtime sponsor Whole Foods Market (WFM), announces a roster of top chef participants who will be conducting complimentary cooking demonstrations at the Aventura and Coral Gables stores, every Tuesday in July from 7 to 8 p.m. Each live cooking demo is free of charge and will last approximately one hour, including cooking and time for Q&A. The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau announces the first Miami Spice Kickoff Event & Fundraiser, to be held at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Hall D, on Saturday, July 31, from 7 to 10 p.m. which will showcase a sampling of delicious culinary specialties from Miami Spice participating restaurants, including: Michy’s, SRA. Martinez, BLT Steak, D. Rodriguez Cuba, Red -The Steakhouse, and Ocean Prime. Clean out your Closet
The Girl Scouts Council of Tropical Florida will launch Juliette’s Closet, in September - a unique and fun fundraiser for ladies looking to downsize their closets or looking to pick up a stylish look while supporting the Girl Scouts. Juliette Gordon Low, who founded the Girl Scouts in 1912, famously sold her strand of pearls in order to launch the first Girl Scout troop in America. Juliette’s Closet is named in her honor. To help fill Juliette’s Closet, the Council is looking for donations of high end, gently used designer clothing, such as evening gowns, purses, clutches, high quality costume jewelry and shoes. All donations are tax deductible.

The Village of Merrick Park (358 San Lorenzo Ave) invites you to Doggy Days of Summer throughout July and August. Bring your pooch to The Garden at the Village of Merrick Park and enjoy special promotions and doggy treats at select retailers and restaurants. Receive a complimentary professional photo of your four-legged friend with a purchase of $25 or more. With a $5 donation enter your pooch in the doggy parade and receive a complimentary bandana. All proceeds will benefit the Humane Society of Greater Miami, which will be taking part in the kick-off with an adopt-a-thon on site. The doggy parade will begin at 3:00 pm in The Garden.
