The Vibe: With 42 spots in Florida, Miller’s Ale House might as well be the official sports bar of the Sunshine State. But with quantity comes repetition. If you’ve seen one Ale House, you’ve seen them all. The bar’s layout is the same, whether you’re in Doral or Daytona. The décor is what you’d expect: Wood everywhere and televisions on every inch of wall space not covered by sports memorabilia. Video games and pool tables complete the sports bar template.
Prices/Deals: What the bar lacks in creativity, it more than makes up for in value. First, 24/7 deals: $5 pitchers of domestics, $2 Foster pints, and if you’re so inclined, $6.95 absinthe shots. Then there are the daily drink specials: In June, the Ale House offers a double special on Fridays: $1 Margaritas and $2 Planters Punch. If you have a taste for late-night cuisine, you can’t find a better deal than $5 appetizers, beginning at 10 p.m. The portions are abundant.
The Scene: While all Ale Houses may look the same, the people inside them are as unique as their surrounding community. Boca Raton? Classy but laid back. North Miami? Elements of the beach crew. And in Doral? It’s so packed on the weekends that they need a valet to park all the cars. Regardless of the spot, though, pretense should be left at the bar. This is a place to bend the elbow, plain and simple.
