Party on the Plaza, Yelloween and The Raw Deal
Straggling Halloween parties, new happy hours and an art walk for your radar top the list of things to do this week in Miami.
Eyes Wide Shut, Wallets Wide Open
Cover up your selfishness for a change and don a mask for charity at the Young Associates of Coral Gables Museum's Third Annual Party on the Plaza Masquerade, 285 Aragon Ave., from 7 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Friday, November 1. There, you'll see exhibits from local artists Miguel Paredes and Alex Mijares, sip Bacardi cocktails, LIQs premium mixed shots, Hatuey beer and food from Eating House, Swine, Morton's and more. DJ Blaze Carreras will spin and dancer Stephanie Mas will do her thing to the rhythmic accompaniment of Carlos Saballos and Javier Rosales. The first 300 guests get a free mask and there will be a photo booth to take selfies for you. Tickets are $50 at the door and all proceeds go to the Coral Gables Museum. Yellow is the New Orange
When it comes to adult trick or treating there's only two words that will excite many: Veuve Clicquot. The chichi champers is throwing a big post Halloween happy hour, Yelloween from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m. Friday, November 1 at The Forge, 432 W. 41st St. Hosted by Elaine Lancaster, Yelloween will feature the retro fab musical stylings of Black Mary, who also goes by the name Maxwell Blandford. A costume contest will offer cash, food and Veuve prizes. Complimentary hors d'oeuvres by chef Dewey LoSasso will go along with the $10 glasses of $50 bottles of Veuve. Special vodka cocktails are $7. For dinner reservations, call 305-538-8533.
Fashioning A Comeback
Art Walks are pretty popular these days, but not necessarily a place people go to actually buy art, unfortunately. Some go for the people watching, others go to see and be seen. When it comes to the First Friday Art Walk at McCormick Place Downtown, 111 SW 3rd St., you can buy art, sure, but you can also buy fashion as local boutiques and designers will be offering their wares for purchase, which in many cases are a lot more affordable than the art. Check out the first of its kind from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, November 1. In addition to all the art, fashions, arty fashions and fashiony art, there will be food trucks, live DJ and cocktails.
The Raw Deal
Bar Crudo, 40 S. Pointe Dr., is giving you a really raw deal from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday when you can suck down signature cocktail and snacks for just $6. Select beer and wine are half off. Among the cocktail selections, a Breath of Life--Spring 44 Old Tom's Gin, cucumber tarragon, fresh lime and lemon.
Nolets, Ands, or Buts
Forget Taco Tuesdays. That's so last week. When it comes to the first Tuesday of every month, it's all about free, yes free, Nolet's Gin cocktails and house made noodles at Khong River House, 1661 Meridian Ave. To avoid an inevitable freeloading frenzy, the event goes from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and there's a limit of one drink and one serving of noodles per person.
Lisa Mattson recalls her not so halcyon days back in Miami circa the 1990s in a memoir, The Exes in My iPod: A Playlist of the Men Who Rocked Me to Wine Country at a book premiere wine tasting from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, November 1 at Vinos in the Grove, 3409 Main Highway. Mattson says that Coconut Grove is "the town where she discovered a taste for wine (and developed a bad taste in men)." Wine tasting is free, but RSVP is a must to http://exesinmyipodvinos.eventbrite.com. On Saturday, November 2 , Mattson heads to Books & Books for a chat and wine tasting led by Jen KAretnick at the Cafe at Books & Books, 265 Aragon Ave.
