Panizza Bistro

About

The name of this Argentine bistro sounds like a cross between the Spanish word for bread and pizza, but it's the owners' last name. The cozy spot is a piece of Buenos Aires, filled with mismatched antiques. Grab a basket and use tongs to fill it with a selection of facturas (mini pastries and croissants), many stuffed with dulce de leche and perfect dunked in coffee or nibbled with herbal tea. A glass case holds salads, empanadas, spinach pies and daily specials -- perhaps veal tongue marinated in vinaigrette. You can also get a hot or cold sandwich. The best seller is lomito (steak panini), with ham, cheese and fried egg on top. There's also chorizo, prosciutto, or buffalo mozzarella with peppers and basil and milanesa in your choice of bread. House-made, over-the-top layer cakes are also available.
