One Night Stand: Fridays @ Badrutt's Place
By Rayme Samuels
Gone are the days when one has to go to South Beach to have a sexy and sophisticated Friday night. Badrutt's Place has put Brickell on the map. Modeled after the high-end playground for the fabulous, Badrutt's Palace in Switzerland, this venue puts a tropical Miami spin on luxury nightlife.
Reminiscent of a London hotel lobby bar, this restaurant/lounge is kitted out with dark woods and extravagant fabrics. Dress your best, as the dress code is strictly enforced at the door. But be sure to strap on comfortable shoes because this night runs from 8 p.m. until 3 in the morning. For those who don't come early for the dinner party, bottle service and tapas are available all night long.
Miami local and resident DJ Andres Amadeus starts the evening with deep house lounge music that some describe as "sensual and sexy" music for diners. As the night proceeds, the mood shifts slightly with an open format rotation between commercial house interspersed with today's hottest hip-hop.
"The purpose of the party is to have fun," explained Sebastian Custey, partner in Sounds of Life and main promoter of the night. A lot of locals are regulars, including plenty of bankers, lawyers and hordes of attractive folks. Around 10 p.m., a more cosmopolitan crowd of fashion and entertainment industry types swagger into the venue. Indoor and outdoor space provides enough room for everyone to mingle comfortably. "It's a very successful mix," continued Custey. Friday's visitors here quickly find that this is a place where they feel the management genuinely wants people to be there and, more importantly, that they want people to come back.
