One night stand: Demystifying the Shore Club
By Rayme Samuels
Off of the bustle of Collins Avenue, hipsters file en masse to one of Miami's least pretentious and altogether glam Sunday night events. Leave your attitude at the red velvet ropes, grab a drink, and dance to your heart's content at SkyBar's Shore Thing Sundays. Located in the historic Shore Club hotel, this outdoor wonder boasts secret passageways, outdoor rooms, decadent fabrics and torch accents that create an ambiance that is more Marrakech than Miami.
The brainchild of hotelier Ian Schrager, this venue offers four completely different nightlife bars that fuse effortlessly into one remarkable occasion with a soundtrack provided by Miami's top DJs. Sandbar, a beach-inspired corner, provides a quiet and sandy escape from the action at nearby Rumbar, an intimate space on the edge of a gorgeous pool, where 75 different rums graces the shelves. Closer to the main hotel are Red Room and Red Room Gardens, an indoor lounge and luxurious tropical outdoor living area, respectively.
Getting sloshed is not a priority with this classy clientele, so you won't find anyone spontaneously diving into either of the hotels' two stunning infinity pools. Drinks average the usual South Beach rate at around $15 a cocktail, and if you feel the need for a nibble, you have the option of grabbing a Japanese fusion at Nobu or a traditional Tuscan treat at Ago until late. Valet can get expensive at $24 an evening, but if you don't mind a walk, a municipal lot is a couple blocks away on Collins Avenue and 21st Street.
Still thinking about what to do Sunday night?
Shorely you jest.
