This feels like one of those weekends that is the calm before the madness. The weather is nice and there aren’t any major events to bounce back and forth to. Next weekend is the 9th annual Jazz in the Gardens, herds of college students will take over our streets over the next couple of weeks for Spring Break, and Ultra Fest is at the end of the month. Yes, the madness is coming and the streets will be cluttered, but for now this is our time to enjoy the chill moments. So for weekends like this, Noire Miami has you covered on where to here some music, people watch, and even get your art on.

Lyric Live at the Historic Lyric Theater
Friday, Mar  (and every first Friday), 7:30 - 9:30PM with 6PM Happy Hour - Historic Lyric Theater Cultural Center Complex, 819 NW 2nd Ave, Downtown Miami

The Historic Lyric Theater has been beautifully redeveloped to be the apple of the eye of Historic Overtown and to spark the rebirth of the area’s rich heritage and culture. Officially re-opening its doors to much fanfare and celebration in February, the Lyric Theater kicks off its programming with Lyric Live, a monthly First Friday history making evening to celebrate art, culture, dance, comedy, and talent in an Apollo-style amateur night with a Miami flavor with a $500 cash prize up for grabs. Sponsored by the City of Miami Southeast Park West Community Redevelopment Agency and Presented by the Black Archives History & Research Foundation of South FL, Inc., Lyric Live is more than just an amateur night talent showcase and is an evening of live music by Jody Hill and the Deep Fried Funk Band and hosted by comedian Chello.

Doors open for a mix and mingle social cash bar from 6PM - 7PM in the Lyric’s Welcome Center Lobby. Seating starts at 7pm. Tickets start at $10 for general seating and can be purchased online at lyriclive.eventbrite.com. For more information, call (305) 636-2390, visit online at www.theblackarchives.org, or email at baf@theblackarchives.org.
