Looking for a South Beach alternative? Vlada is Midtown Miami's newest and only local gay bar. The exterior isn't very conspicuous, so don't drive too fast or you'll miss it.

Name sound familiar? The original Vlada is located in the Hell’s Kitchen area of New York City.

Like their NYC locale, Vlada Miami also features their signature infused vodka house drinks. Try all 16 flavors that range from apple/cinnamon to cranberry to horseradish to pineapple. (Pineapple is a favorite!) The vodkas are all lined up behind the bar in spicketed glass decanters. It's not only cool visually, the vodkas taste great and shake up the typical vodka on the rocks tradition.

Cool stonework covers most of the support columns and the dark wood paneled walls give Vlada an upscale urban feel. Running the length of its only bar is an interesting 5-inch wide tray that holds ice, the perfect place to set your cocktail and keep it cool.

Be warned: seating is scarce. There are a few banquets that line the walls of the bar, but there are no stools at the bar or outdoors, so be prepared to stand if you plan to hang in either spot.

Aside from their signature infused vodkas, Vlada also offers a full service bar. Prices are average. Happy hour prices are reasonable and are often extended into the night ($7 martinis are not a bad deal).

The crowd is a mix of young and old, black, white and latino. If you arrive early you'll encounter a scarce crowd, but it usually starts to fill up by 11:30 p.m. Music is provided by a local DJ with a mix of house and pop. Best nights are Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

A couple of updates =-) Plenty of seating has been added since this article was written, barstools, additional loune seating, etc. Events change here often, and you can find anything from an 80's new wave party to a Poetry slam, depending on the day of the week. Also, it should be noted that the phone number is 305-572-9133... Read more
