Shark fin soup is officially off the menu at Philippe according to Chef Philippe Chow, who is calling on other chefs to follow suit.

The extravagant Chinese delicacy has long been controversial as increased consumption threatens shark populations throughout the world. Mako sharks, formerly used at Phillpe, are one of the 10 most endangered species in the world. Alan Yau of Hakkasan (SoBe's other home of high-brow Chinese) banned shark fin soup from his restaurants last fall.

Seafood lovers don't have to go cold soup turkey - try substituting with lobster and Chinese chive or red snapper and watercress soup at Hakkasan or corn and crabmeat soup at Philppe.
