If you love classical music but your honey can't sit through an entire performance without a fifth of vodka or some Nodoz, the New World Symphony has the perfect compromise. This Friday they host their final mini concert series, three 30-minute shows that offer the classical music lover a small dose of their beloved favorites, yet are brief enough that your sweetheart won't pull out the smart phone to play Words With Friends.

The shows provide a unique, intimate and educational experience as New World Symphony fellows will discuss their work and music, offering a greater understanding of the pieces played. The fellows will be playing Beethoven's Leonore Overture No. 3 at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. and Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis at 8:30 p.m.

Even better: There's an after party hosted by Friends of New World Symphony at Maxine's Pool Lounge at the Catalina Hotel with a musical tribute to Etta James, cocktails, wine and hors d'oeuvres. That will keep your honey awake for sure.
