Naked Pizza brings "all natural" pizza to Coral Gables

For the all-natural crowd, a branch of Naked Pizza has opened in Coral Gables, the second Miami-Dade location for a New Orleans-based franchise operation that works seeds, grains and probiotics into its crusts to promote better digestion.

I don’t know about you, but I’d rather chew my favorite hazardous version more thoroughly. With no trans fat, butter or sugar, this cubbyhole-sized spot is more about what you’re not eating than what you’re shoving in your pie hole. I’m all for healthy ingredients, but the dense crust on the two good-for-you pizzas we tried left me cold. With toppings chopped into unappetizing, mince-sized pieces, the experience was not the wow I expected based on my friends’ raves.

The pull-apart bread sticks, topped with mozzarella and Cheddar, made a tasty, chewy beginning. And that’s a starter that may make me give it another healthy try. Next time, I’m passing up the Ragin’ Cajun, which wasn’t even close to spicing up my life. The chicken strips were juicy, but the sausage, garlic, bell peppers and onions didn’t have any zest.

And the “Superbiotic” was fresh, but the tomato sauce overwhelmed the artichoke, spinach, bell pepper, mushroom, garlic, onion and cilantro.
