Giada De Laurentiis
By Howard Cohen
For Rome-born Giada De Laurentiis, cooking's a family tradition. Her filmmaker grandfather Dino De Laurentiis (Barbarella, King Kong) got his start selling spaghetti produced by his father. The spicy Food Network host and soon-to-be mom, in town during the South Beach Wine & Food Festival, dishes about, among other things, why she loves Italian restaurant Casa Tua (maybe it's the spaghetti sauce).
What's your favorite Miami hot spot?
Casa Tua. It's not only the food that is excellent, but the **11**ce, the whole feeling in that place is like going home. I think that's what I love about it so much. It's kind of tucked away, not on the main strip, romantic, kind of like a hidden treasure. For me, those are always the most fun.
Conversely, anything about Miami you dislike?
The humidity! I have very curly hair and I like to get it blow-dried before I get there and I feel like someone dropped a big bucket of water on my head.
Humidity is a constant -- but South Beach changes.
The vibe is unbelievable. It really is a fun place to be. It's so cultural and so many different types of people walking around. People understand how to have a great time in South Beach. Everybody is comfortable in their own skin. That's a nice thing to see.
