Musing with Myra elevates networking events
Social-networking events go high style in Wynwood
Networking events, as business as they may sound, aren’t all necessarily breeding grounds for insipid opportunists. Take Musing with Myra, for example, a monthly arts networking event hosted by arts enthusiast and champion Myra Wexler taking place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Wynwood Kitchen and Bar. And whereas some networking events have no theme other than shameless schmoozing, this one celebrates the upcoming National Poetry Month and features jazz musician Leo Casino with guest jazz/blues vocalist Miss Pat Hunter. There are also the requisite happy hour specials and for those looking for more than food for thought, small bites will be provided. Best of all, everyone’s invited, but an RSVP is a must to firstname.lastname@example.org.
For networking of a more specific nature, The Lords South Beach is offering “South Florida’s discerning gay reveler” the chance to become a member of the Cha Cha Club, a pool club, if you will, which, unlike other such membership only places, offers free cocktails, restaurant discounts, private event invites and more. A limited amount of memberships will be offered to the public from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday during the official launch for the Cha Cha Club and its new Sunday afternoon pool party. DJ Oren Nizri will spin, while Creative Male presents the hottest swimwear for spring 2012. Vodka cocktails are free from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, email email@example.com.
More pool parties are expected during the very buzzy Miami Music Week, Winter Music Conference and ULTRA, which kicks off Tuesday at The National Hotel with the fifth annual Future Classics Pool Party with DJ Paul Oakenfold. Tickets, no doubt, are already sold out; however, if you stay at the hotel, you get free access to all pool parties, including that one. Here’s the rub, or scratch rather: Cabana room rates start at $499 a night. Call 305-532-2311 for more information.
More music madness takes place from noon to 11 p.m. Thursday at Villa 221 as San Francisco’s Dirtybird record label carpetbags its way into Miami with its legendary BBQ party known as Hatched, featuring Claude von Stroke, Eats Everything, Martin Bros, Catz N Dogz, J. Phlip, Justin Jay, and more in a party that they promise will be "served generously with sides of sweaty bass lines and bass-driven funk." Tickets are $20 in advance.
From San Fran to Vegas, the Palms Casino Resort and 9 Group are taking over Mokai starting at 1 p.m. Thursday with its tweaky weekly day party, GBDC, which stands for Ghostbar Dayclub, which is exactly what it sounds like: a day club. Among the headliners spinning at the party: Zen Freeman, Sex Panther and Alie Layus. To accompany the noise...er, soundtrack, “chaotic revelry includes high-end beer bongs, flowing champagne, house music and piñata smashing.” All this during daylight hours, no less. Tickets are $40 and available at www.ghostbardayclub.com.
At WALL, a hefty list of DJs, including German spin doctors Roboot and Robert Dietz spinning classic house at 11 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are available at www.wantickets.com.
Winter Music Conference DJs will also converge upstairs at Jazid at 11 p.m. March 17. Among those on the lineup: Carlos Mean, DJ Erv, Ben Desoul, Pablo Stell, DJ Wasabi and Lex Lara. For a totally different beat, downstairs it’s Xperimento playing live cumbia and Latin tunes. Cover is $10.
Over in the Design District at 9 p.m. Friday, The Stage and Brotherly Love Productions presents the Jamtronic Chronic Winter Music Conference Kickoff Party with hot electro up and comers including Greenhouse Lounge, SOUNDUO, Aquaphonics, EP3 and DuBBle James as well as a DJ set by the delightfully named Atlanta producer known as Bitch Please and live painting by B Paul. Tickets are an ultra-affordable $10 in advance and before 11 p.m. and $15 after 11 p.m. At 9 p.m. Saturday at The Stage, a Latin funk and soul party for, according to headliner Electric Piquete bassist Michael Mut, “those who are sick of bad Irish cover bands and cheap green beer.” Also on the program: Ketchy Shuby and Conjunto Progress. Cover is $10.
And finally, speaking of cheap green beer, you’ll find none of it at Clarke’s seventh annual Bushmills & Bailey’s Breakfast starting at 9 a.m. (!) Saturday and continuing through noon with $2 shots of both and $3 pints of Guinness. The slam-packed St. Patty’s party pretty much goes on until the last person stumbles out later that night. Expect lots of Irish-style fanfare, music, mayhem and maybe, just maybe, networking.
