South Beach gets a (long overdue) taste of authentic Thai this month as John Kunkel & the 50 Eggs Group (Yardbird) open Khong River House in the former Miss Yip's space on Lincoln Rd. Miami.com was granted a first look at the clean, crisp space. The restaurant's aesthetic draws from the rural farm houses along the Mekong River - check out these photos: http://www.miami.com/khong-river-house
Thai chef Piyarat Potha Arreeratn aka Chef Bee (Oishi Thai, Nobu) will be helming the kitchen. Khong draws its name from the Mekhong River, which runs through Southeast Asia and connects parts of China, Burma, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. The river's influence carries over into the foods prepared in the street markets of Northern Thailand - and Khong. Kunkel promises "rustic Northern Thai" - think green papaya salad, sticky rice and Kai Yang - charcoal roasted guinea hen stuffed with lemongrass, garlic, pepper and cilantro. Opening is scheduled for Monday, Dec 17. Menu details & a First Look coming soon.
