Art Basel Miami Beach opens its doors at the Miami Beach Convention Center on Thursday December 5, and the international art world is set to flood the city. Mandarin Oriental, Miami
In collaboration with the publication ArtNexus, the Mandarin Oriental, Miami (500 Brickell Key Dr., Miami; 305-913-8288) will present a special exhibition of contemporary Latin American art in its atrium lobby during Art Basel Miami Beach. Curated by Celia Birbragher, founder, editor and publisher of ArtNexus, the exhibition celebrates the City of Miami as the crossroads of the Americas and emphasizes Latin American art. Artists whose work will be on display include Allora y Calzadilla of Cuba and Puerto Rico, Ioli de Freitas of Brazil, Leon Ferrari of Argentina, Dr. Lakra of Mexico and Jose Bedia of Cuba and Miami. Opening Monday December 2, the exhibition will be part of a weeklong silent auction benefitting the ArtNexus Foundation, a non-profit focused on promoting the arts through enrichment of the artistic community and art preservation.

Ritz-Carlton, South Beach
W South Beach
With a prime location across the street from Art Basel Miami Beach’s Public sector at Collins Park and a short walk to the Convention Center, the W South Beach (2201 Collins Ave., Miami Beach; 305-938-3000) is an ideal hotel for the serious fairgoer. Built in 2009, the 408-unit condo hotel offers picturesque ocean views through floor-to-ceiling windows in every guest room.
Its onsite restaurant Mr. Chow will host a Balloon Venue Sculpture by Jeff Koons with Dom Pérignon Rosé Vintage 2003 nightly from Tuesday, December 3 through Sunday, December 8 from 6 p.m. to close.
The hotel also boasts an impressive contemporary art collection with original works by Damien Hirst, Tom Sachs, Kenny Scharf and George Condo, amongst others on display in its public spaces on a rotating basis. Two rare paintings created by Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat in collaboration will be added to the hotel just in time for Art Basel.
Additionally, all guests of the property will take home a complimentary golden skull tablet stand by emerging Detroit-based artist Doug Schwartz. Known as The Art Hotel, the 92-suite Sagamore (1671 Collins Ave., Miami Beach; 305-535-8088) is helmed by its owners’ eponymous art collection, The Cricket Taplin Collection, since 1997. Cricket, along with her husband Marty, has made art the focal point of their South Beach oceanfront hotel.
During Art Basel this year, along with Senior Curator for Media Arts at the Smithsonian American Art Museum John Hanhardt, the hotel will present Framing the Moving Image. The exhibition explores the way artists capture, compose and represent traditions and histories, as well as the changing material landscapes—locally and globally—through the moving image. The exhibit is open to the public and will feature site specific installations, film, video, performance art and photography by such artists as Bill Beirne, Shannon Plumb and Ken Jacobs.
The Art Hotel is also the host of the 12th Annual Sagamore Art Basel brunch, an invitation only event held Saturday December 7 in collaboration with six local museums.

Delano South Beach
A mainstay of South Beach style and nightlife, the Philippe Starck-designed Delano South Beach (1685 Collins Ave., 305-672-2000) has a week brimming with both art and parties.
In collaboration with Spring Studio, the hotel will feature a 12-foot tall gold plated dragon sculpture by Michael Benisty in the Orchard, as well as a photography exhibition by Raphael Mazzucco in the lobby, both open to the public daily from Tuesday, December 3 through Sunday, December 8.
For those who want to get their day started on the right foot, Grey Area and lululemon present Rise & Shine poolside yoga at 9 a.m. daily from Wednesday, December 4 through Friday, December 6. Classes will feature limited edition yoga mats created by seven artists, available for purchase at $90 each.
The Media Room will feature short films by Ed Roche, John Baldessari and David Hockney from 4 to 5 p.m. daily from Wedneaday, December 4 through Saturday, December 7.
