VH1’s Rock Docs - The Tanning of America: One Nation Under Hip Hop
Thursday, June 5, 5:30PM - 8PM - Historic Lyric Theater, 819 NW 2nd Ave, Miami
The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau and The Black Archives kick off Miami Film Month with a special screening of VH1′s “The Tanning of America: One Nation Under Hip Hop” based on Steve Stoute’s best-selling book. The music documentary is a thorough examination of hip-hop as a cultural movement, whose profound influence in music, film, television, fashion, business, race relations and politics eventually paved the way for the election of Barack Obama. Reception at 5:30pm; film screening at 6:30pm followed by Q&A with the film director.
Caribbean-American Heritage Month Kick-off Celebration

In honor of Caribbean-American Heritage Month and a season at Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) dedicated to Caribbean art, PAMM teams up with host Neki Mohan of Channel 10 News, Caribbean-American Heritage Florida, and The Rhythm Foundation with an eventing of Caribbean art and dancing under the stars to a live performance by Lauderhill Steel Ensemble.
