Ted's at YoungArts fills gastro-entertainment niche in Miami

The Who: The teams from YoungArts and Stephen Starr Events have collaborated on this “gastro-entertainment venue,” which is a lounge-restaurant that also features curated performances by YoungArts alumni. The name refers to YoungArts founder Ted Arison.

The Space: A ‘Blade Runner’-esque space designed by Frank Gehry. Located on the seventh floor of the YoungArts building (formerly the Bacardi building), the intimate lounge features impressive tech amenities like high-level acoustics and video projection. A jazz trio performed on the night we attended. Bonus: Ample free parking in the garage below.

Limited hours: The restaurant is open from 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.

The Dishes: Global tapas. Plates are meant to be shared and span Asian, Latin and French influences. Prices are moderate with most small plates $11-$16 and larger plates $25-$29.

Asian dishes include the chilled soba noodles with sesame dressing and Thai-glazed shrimp bao buns with tamarind slaw. Chickpea falafel are served with heirloom tomato and white bean salad, pita bread and tzatziki, while tuna tartare here comes with lime, avocado, pickled ginger and a crispy rice cake. Key West shrimp ceviche is served with ginger lime juice. Larger mains include a seared wahoo and a smoked duck breast on a bed of bomba rice with duck confit and trumpet royale mushrooms.

The Bottom Line: An upscale spot for dinner and a show with talented YoungArts alumni providing entertainment.
