Struggling Lorenzo calls it quits in Miami Beach

Lorenzo, the Italian restaurant from chef Tony Mantuano, will close Sept. 1 after a nine-month run at the Redbury South Beach

The space will change over to Cleo, a Mediterranean-style restaurant that has an outpost at the Redbury’s Los Angeles hotel. Projected opening: late fall.

Mantuano, a Michelin-starred, James Beard Award-winning chef and restaurateur from Chicago, will not be involved in Cleo.

“The hotel’s restaurant is now under SBE management,” a spokesman told and the Miami Herald, referring to the group that operates the Redbury, SLS, Raleigh and other hotel properties as well as restaurants and nightclubs.

Lorenzo struggled to find a following, despite a mixed bag of critical reviews and bringing in a new executive chef in May to replace the one who had departed soon after the restaurant’s opening.

Lorenzo will operate for the next two and a half weeks, during which time it will continue to offer a Miami Spice menu.
