The Continental is a spinoff of Starr’s first Philadelphia restaurant, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary. “It’s like my first child,” Starr said of the original. “It will always have a special place in my heart. I’m excited to be opening The Continental in Miami at the same time” as the anniversary.
The restaurant opens Saturday for dinner service and will begin lunch service on Monday; from then, it’s lunch and dinner daily. Breakfast and brunch will follow.
Cooking here is chef Matthew Oetting, who comes from Starr’s Caffe Storico in New York. Oetting developed the Miami Beach menu with Starr corporate chef Erik Battes.
What they came up with:
• Build Your Own Sushi: a BYO bento box of tuna, salmon, sushi rice, toasted nori, vegetables and garnishes.
• Foie Gras “McGriddle”: fried egg, American cheese, bacon, hollandaise, maple griddlecakes.
• Backyard Burger: aged cheddar, Nueske’s bacon, onion, pickles, ketchup, mustard served on a kaiser roll with fries.
• Charred Broccoli: with romesco, pickled chilies, Marcona almonds, lime.
Starr Restaurants also operates Makoto in Bal Harbour, Steak 954 in Fort Lauderdale and Verde at the Pérez Art Museum Miami. A catering arm ran the short-lived Ted’s at YoungArts.
