Pubbelly and Wynwood Brewing Co. are the latest Miami food-and-beverage companies to announce new projects onboard the Norwegian Escape, a new ship set to start cruising from Miami in November. The ship also will be home to an at-sea version of longtime Miami bar Tobacco Road.
Pubbelly partners Jose Mendin, Andreas Schreiner and Sergio Navarro will open Food Republic on Norwegian Escape.
With “flavors ranging from Asia to Central Europe and the Mediterranean,” the new lunch-and-dinner concept will feature Pubbelly favorites like bacon-wrapped dates stuffed with chorizo, truffle-shortrib dumplings, and amberjack crudo with lemongrass romesco. Cruise passengers can order from their tables via iPads.
Wynwood Brewing is working on an exclusive beer for Norwegian Escape’s District Brew House, which also will feature a full lineup of Wynwood’s draft beers plus selections from guest breweries — 24 draft options and more than 50 bottled choices.
Miami’s Bar Lab partners, Elad Zvi and Gabriel Orta, are creating the cocktail list for District Brew House, which will include a photo booth, so guests can leave their selfie sticks in their cabins.
The new cruise ship also will have some non-Miami-bred establishments. Philadelphia chef-restaurateur Jose Garces will operate several spots on the Escape, and “Cake Boss” star Buddy Valastro will run an onboard outpost of his Carlo’s Bake Shop.
The newly announced Miami-Norwegian partnerships are the latest between local food/drink companies and cruise lines. Chef-restaurateur Michael Schwartz has operated restaurants aboard Royal Caribbean ships since 2011 and recently announced new projects that will bring the number of his at-sea restaurants to six.
