The who: Co-owned by the former proprietors of Trattoria Sole and Mixt Sushi in South Miami: Martin Monteverde, Bernhard Scholl, and chef Diego Muñoz, this Peruvian eatery brings inspiration from the chef’s background at El Bulli and Astrid y Gastón in Peru.
The space: The former Bistro BE space is still a modern, airy dining room with cream-colored walls, beige booths and soft lighting. There’s a semi-open kitchen for plenty of culinary theater.
The dishes: Regional Peruvian with an emphasis on seafood. The concise menu includes raw and cured fish and cooked Peruvian classics. Prices are reasonable with small plates averaging $12 and mains in the $20’s.
Tiraditos are laid out on long white plates with an elegant, Mondrian-like precision, and causas –– mashed potato cylinders — are topped with king crab and poached chicken. The risoni parihuela is made with a seafood house broth brimming with clams, prawns, scallops and zucchini.
Peruvian home cooking is also available with dishes like the Lomo Saltado, sliced beef sauteed with onions, peppers and the anticucho platter featuring a tender veal heart, grilled octopus, and chicken livers. Sides include fried yuca topped with huancaina sauce.
Desserts include a sweet rice pudding a lucuma mousse with sesame brittle.
Hours: Monday-Wednesday, 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.; Thursday-Saturday, 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Lunch, noon to 3 p.m. Closed Sunday.
