Ex Milos chef to head up kitchen at Miami River Greek spot, KIKI on the River

Miami nightlifers just keep growing up and moving on to the equally brutal restaurant biz. See: David Grutman and Alan Roth who have ventured into the food world, as has Roman Jones, who, along with ex Philippe Chow Miami managing partner Aris Nanos, hospitality exec and former BED owner Lee Lyon and nightlife vet and Ghosthouse Creative Group designer Mark Lehmkuhl, will open KIKI on the River, a Greek restaurant slated to open in late September.

 “We want our guests to experience the light simplicity you find in modern Greece, while honoring the legacy of the Miami River” said Jones. Being directly on the waterfront adds to the laid-back elegance of the restaurant. “We occupy an enviable spot on the water. It’s at the knuckle of the river, so you can see clear up and down both ways.”

Unlike the other riverfront spots, KIKI will offer private gondola service to and from the place as part of a dinner package. The private boats which will come equipped with picnic baskets stocked with an assortment of house-made gourmet items perfect for sharing a moonlit boat ride but hopefully not enough to make you too full to order dinner because the kitchen is being run by Executive Chef Steve Rhee, who just so happened to open Estiatorio Milos in Miami Beach after serving three years as sous chef at its Vegas counterpart.

Chef Rhee has the perfect blend of skills for this project,” Jones offers.  “He loves simple, rustic cuisine but has incredible technical skills and a real knack for elevating dishes with technique and by using amazing, fresh product.  These elements combined, made him a natural to execute Kiki’s menu.”
