Craft Beer of the Week: Porter from Green Man Brewery in Asheville, North Carolina.
Details: Green Man has been a longtime fixture in Asheville’s robust craft brewing scene, first releasing its English-style ales in 1997. Asheville’s crossover appeal with Florida residents and tourists made the decision to expand distribution to the Sunshine State an easy one for Green Man owner Dennis Thies. “We have received a great deal of enthusiasm for our beer from Florida, and our distribution strategy is to follow where the love is,” Thies says. Green Man’s three flagship beers — IPA, ESB and Porter — are available throughout the state as of this month. I especially dig Porter, a rich, dark ale that finishes silky smooth, with notes of milk chocolate and espresso; clocks in at an easy-drinking 6 percent alcohol by volume.
Price: About $11 for a six-pack of 12-ounce bottles at Total Wine, Crown, Publix and other retailers.
More Green Man: The brewery is hosting rollout parties noon Sunday at Tucker Duke’s in Deerfield Beach, 4 p.m. Sunday at Banana Boat in Boynton Beach and on Tuesday at Barracuda in Coconut Grove.
More Beer: Tidy up Wynwood, get free beer. Every Sunday morning after Art Walk, the folks at Concrete Beach Brewery help pick up litter and do other tidying-up around the Wynwood Business Improvement District. You can join them on their merry do-gooding from 11 a.m. to noon Sunday by meeting at the brewery, 325 NW 24th St., Miami. The best part? Anyone who volunteers gets a free beer afterward.
