Craft Beer of the Week: Concrete Beach Tropic of Passion

Craft Beer of the Week: Tropic of Passion — a tart wheat ale brewed with passion fruit by the new Concrete Beach Brewery in Miami.

Story: “It’s kinda one of those beers that you either love it or hate it,” Jesse Morris, manager of Concrete Beach Brewery’s new Wynwood tap room, says as he pulls me a fresh pint of Tropic of Passion. “Most people are loving it.” Me among them.

Concrete Beach founder Alan Newman, the serial entrepreneur who started Seventh Generation and Magic Hat Brewing, among other ventures, is pushing his brewers to craft beers that have a sense of place in subtropical South Florida. Tropic of Passion succeeds on that front with its use of tart, palate-cleansing passion fruit and a highly drinkable 4.9 percent alcohol by volume. It would be killer with a bowl of ceviche.

Price: $6 for a draft at Concrete Beach, 325 NW 24th St., Miami. Visit concretebeachbrewery.com for hours and more information.
