The Who: Coyo Taco founders Alan Drummond, Sven Vogtland and executive chef Scott Linquist branch out with a South Beach outpost of the popular Wynwood taco joint. Their Shore Club spot is being labeled a pop-up, with an end date TBD.
The Space: The former home of Nobu (which moved up the street to the Edec Roc) at the Shore Club still retains its dim and secluded feel with concrete pillars and candle light but now there’s a Mexican-tiled bar, colorful low-slung tables and ottomans, and a mirror wall done up with menu items and artwork.
The Dishes: Modern Mexican with upscale touches. Most of the menu is similar to the Wynwood location with the addition of a lobster taco and a full bar here, so make room for spicy margaritas and rare mezcals. The price point is also the same with pairs of tacos going for $7.50-$15.
Start off with the smashed-to-order guacamole and tortilla chips along with homemade salsas. The tortillas are made at the Wynwood location and come stuffed with everything from carne asada to charred octopus. High-end fillings include the beer-battered lobster and a duck confit topped with cojita cheese.
Vegetarians still get those quinoa falafel tacos, and there is seared tuna, too.
Desserts include fresh churros and dipping sauces and fruit paletas in flavors of coconut and watermelon.
The Bottom Line: Now Miami Beach people can get Coyo’s affordable, creative tacos without having to cross a causeway.
