"Celebrity" status won't get you into Eating House's sold-out 4/20 dinner

Celebrity status won’t get you a table at Eating House’s sold-out annual pot-inspired 4/20 dinner Wednesday and at least one found out the hard way.

The co-host of the Dan LeBatard Show, Jon Weiner, called the restaurant on the air on April 14 and dropped his name to try to supplant someone with reservations.

“There’s no comfortable way for me to do this… Do you listen to sports radio at all? This is Stugotz, man,” he begins, using his radio nickname.

After some back and forth, chef/owner Giorgio Rapicavoli, who is friends with the show’s producer, shuts him down. He even later turns down comedian Bob Sagat, who was guest hosting, but offers to find him some room in the restaurant, just to spite Weiner.

“We’ve got to stay loyal to the people, man,” Rapicavoli tells him.

Whether it was part of a bit or not, it’s worth listening to: http://espn.go.com/espnradio/play?id=15210783. Weiner’s Miami-famous moment begins at the 13-minute mark, Sagat’s at the 1 hour, 10-minute mark.

The restaurant sold out five seatings, despite adding a late-night seating at 11:45 p.m., but Rapicavoli said today they are taking names for a waiting list.

This is the fourth year for Eating House’s 4/20 dinner. Among the seven-item, $42-per-person menu is a double-bacon cheeseburger with smoked cheddar, a General Tso’s chicken and waffles with green onions and toasted sesame seeds. For dessert, a “special brownie” with burnt caramel.
