Saturday night, just in time for Halloween, DJ supergroup Swedish House Mafia brings its floor-quaking, booty-shaking party Masquerade Motel from Ibiza superclub Pacha to Midtown Miami’s Scope Art Arena. SHM features no less than three of DJ Mag’s Top 25 DJs in the world – Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso – and their sexy, high-energy sound is unlike any other. You’re sure to hear dance-floor hits such as “One” and the very apropos “Miami 2 Ibiza” (featuring Tinie Tempah), plus most of the tracks from the new album “Until One.” Get decked out in your favorite Halloween costume – you just might win a prize. Super-hip band Brazilian Girls also performs live.
Swedish House Mafia talked to Miami.com about the show.
All three of you were ranked in the Top 25 of DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJ list. Was it your intention to form a DJ supergroup?
No. It’s not that we are that – it’s that sometimes we come together to put on a bigger show and perform in a different way. We don’t intend to do it and our solo careers remain our focus 100 percent. SHM is fun for us, not a business strategy.
How does the dynamic work? Who does what, and do your respective roles change from track to track?
We plan the sets, mainly containing our own music and we just have a rhythm now where we just know what each other is going to do.
Do you sometimes find it hard to agree on a course of action? If so, how do you resolve it?
No. But IF we don’t all agree, we vote. But it’s never ever come to that – we all sort of agree on what’s good and bad for us and it’s never got to the voting stage and we all support each other’s views.
What can we expect from your show in Miami?
Well – that depends on you. We will do what you know us for, with a few surprises, and we will provide an environment for you to check into the motel, and become whatever you want. The fact that it’s Halloween is just a bonus. We just say, “Masks on, please,” and the rest is up to you.
Will we hear most of “Until One”?
Of course! It’s basically all our best tracks and edits, so you’ll hear lots of it, plus new stuff.
How would you describe SHM’s sound?
What inspired the track “Miami 2 Ibiza”?
We were so tired when we did that. We were buzzing from doing “One” and we just fell into the studio with Tinie Tempah after we played Brixton Academy in London, and the energy of us together was just massive. We were so tired, but it just came flooding out. We loved Tinie and he loved us, and there we are
What are your plans so far for Winter Music Conference?
It’s a secret, and I tell you now, it’s not what you expect!
