Spooky, boozy, cool: Halloween week in Miami and beyond

Nightmare on the Beach

No, it’s not just another way to describe the flooding situation after a big rain storm, but, rather, the annual Little Lighthouse Foundation Halloween party, 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday, October 31 at Lummus Park benefiting children and their families struggling with educational, financial and medical hardships. This year’s theme? Heaven & Hell, a dastardly delightful dichotomy of good, bad, and worse. Just kidding. There, Dos Equis will be running two lounges featuring beer, NO2 ice cream, make your own s’mores and s’more. A photo booth will save you the hassle of taking copious selfies and a V2Cigs Lounge and Drinkhouse Fire & Ice Bar will cater to those other vices. For those who really overdo it, ticket holders will get free weekend passes to Equinox. Premium open bar, food by Miami Grill, Green Bites and Miami Cake Lounge, among others, and music by DJ Willy Monfret are included in the $175 (scheduled to rise) ticket price. Booze & Aaahs

New on the cocktail circuit: Sweet Liberty Drinks & Supply, 237-B 20th St, a watering hole and feed station carefully concocted by expert bartender John Lermayer along with restaurateur David Martinez and bar vet Dan Binkiewicz featuring intelligently made cocktails and twisty American fare. “I’ve been very fortunate to experience some of the greatest bars around the world. I really feel it’s the neighborhood spot that South Beach deserves. It’s about accessible luxury; it’s about community. We aim to be a bar that the people of Miami can be proud to call their own,” said co-owner Lermayer. Among his signature drinks: Velvet Sideswipe Mezcal Vida, Spiced Pineapple, Agave Nectar, Lemon served over crushed ice and drizzled with Sweet Vermouth; Collins Park Sour Fords Gin, Créme de pêche, Orange Blossom, Egg White & Matcha; and the Big Banana Julep Banana Infused Bourbon, Jamaican Rum & Mint served in an oversized silver julep cup. The vibe is said to be casual despite the fancy drink sand space described as “mid-century Americana meets tropical industrial.” Toto, we’re not in Brooklyn anymore.  “The goal was to create more of a feel than a look. We feel the design is reflective of what the people who live in Miami Beach want and can relate to,” Lermayer said. Sweet Liberty will be open daily from 4 p.m. to 5 a.m. with daily happy hours from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. featuring 75 cent oysters and rose on tap at $5.

 

Half Time

For a wholly good reason to head to Hallandale Beach’s brand new Hyde Beach Kitchen + Cocktails, South Surf Road, consider their brand new Monday through Thursday social hour from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. featuring half off on all specialty cocktails, $5 glasses of rose champagne and dollar oysters at the second floor bar. Oceanside views are free.   

 

Moon Over Mars

Ok, so it’s not quite Mars, but the resplendent Morada Bay in Islamorada (81600 Overseas Hwy.) is throwing an out of this world Halloween party starting at 5 p.m. Saturday, October 31 that’s far from the traffic and maddening crowds that are inevitable in other parts of So Flo. The theme, Space Oddity, conveniently coincides with the full moon, featuring fireworks, live music, performers, DJs, bonfires, BBQ, all with “a spooky alien twist.” A costume contest starts at 10 p.m. with over $2,000 in prizes. General admission is $20 per person; VIP admission, which includes entry into Pierre’s Lounge, is $30. An $85 prix fixe menu at Pierre’s includes admission to the party. Magnum Opus

First Fox’s, then Magnum Lounge closes, leaving a major void in Miami’s dark and sultry lounge scene, that is until Pasta Vino, 1624 79th St. Causeway, decided to pick up the (s)lack and at least host a satellite version of the torchy fave in the form of Magnum Nights, 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m, on Sundays featuring music, booze (served by some of the bartenders from Magnum) and, of course, carbs for those who need to load up before belting out.
