db Bistro Moderne Serves Up Art You Can Drink

The temperature is rising in Miami and everybody can feel it. As the city approaches its “slow” season, the quest for more affordable (and air conditioned) happy hour spots continues. We stopped by db Bistro Moderne at the JW Marriott Marquis last night to check out their cocktail options. We encountered artfully concocted drinks that were as lovely to behold as they were to drink.

Boasting only three cocktail options, db Bistro’s happy hour menu may seem meager to some. However, we quickly discovered that the name of the game here is quality, not quantity, and that the drinks are so cleverly crafted that just one is enough to take you on a multi-faceted journey through flavor.

We started our sampling with the bistro’s famous White Cosmopolitan (pictured above). If you come to db Bistro and don’t try the White Cosmo, you’ve committed a grievous sin, according to our waitress. A sweet and delicate blend of Sobieski Vodka, white cranberry and lime, the White Cosmo arrives at your table in a miniature glass pitcher. You get to watch entranced as the server pours the milky white liquid into a martini glass over a sphere of ice with a frozen blossom at its heart. $10

Next, we opted for the Grapefruit Blossom (above), a tantalizing mixture of New Amsterdam Gin, St. Germain Elderflower and ruby red grapefruit. Citrusy and floral, the Grapefruit Blossom martini is the color of a deep Miami sunset and tastes like a summer afternoon. $9

We didn’t get to try the Strawberry Patch, the bistro’s take on a flavored mojito, but trusted sources have confirmed it’s worth waiting in South Miami rush hour traffic for. It features a base of strawberry-infused rum blended with lemon juice, basil-infused simple syrup, and a splash of Sprite. $9
