Beer, pigskin, skin, more pigskin, music, more beer & Super Bowl!

Mmmm, Beer

When it comes to filling up a typically abandoned Miami athletic stadium, it’s not rocket science. Just add booze. If you beer it they will come, which is what will happen from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31 at the 3rd Annual Miami Beer Festival at Marlins Park, 501 Marlins Way. Kegfuls of craft and international breweries will be on, er, tap serving their most stellar suds. There will also be food trucks and DJs. Admission os $40 for general population and $50 for VIP which includes an extra hour of specialty beers poured only during that hour. Food is additional as are the Marlins season tickets.  For more information on the beer fest go to www.miamibeerfestival.com

Bowled Over

There aren’t too many places in the country at which a tailgating party involves swimming in water that hasn’t frozen over. Consider yourselves lucky and celebrate even if your fave team is not playing the big game at a pre-game pool party Sunday, Feb. 1 at Monty’s Sunset, 300 Alton Road, where 2 p.m. is the official kick off time for an afternoon of debauchery in the form of live bands, DJs, raw bar, drink specials and, eventually if you are still coherent, the actual Super Bowl shown on 30 HDTVs including a huge, inflatable projection screen. For those unable to walk, hobble or stumble in or out of there, they’re offering free rides down the beach to and from the party in one of their souped-up golf carts. Over at the Shore Club, 1901 Collins Ave., a similarly splashy affair, with its 1 p.m. pool party followed by a 5 p.m. Bowl watch party in the Red Room where there will be game-appropriate food and drink specials, including a $25 pitcher of beer and an $8 hot dog.

Showing (Pig) Skin
Talk about distractions. E11EVEN, 29 NE 11th St.,  Miami’s most celebrated, celebrity purveyor of T&A is getting in on the big game too and, as to be expected, it’s making it rain in the form of a full open bar and a barbecue tailgate catered by Pride and Joy BBQ, which is actually bringing its own smoker to the parking lot in case it’s not smoking enough inside. In addition to the assorted eye  candy, there will be big screens showing the real game should you find yourself interested in that sort of action. The open bar and BBQ go from 6 p.m.  to 10 p.m. Admission is $30 for women and $75 for men. (There are some exceptions to that whole equality thing, huh?)

Picante!
While football allegiances may divide people and households, music makes the people come together (thanks, Madonna) as it will this weekend at The Stage Miami, 170 NE 38th St. First up on Friday, Jan. 30 is Bachaco, the reggae rock/Latin roots band that takes its name from Venezuelan rainforest ants used to make a hot aphrodisiac, celebrating its latest single, “Sunfire Girl” with a party at 10 p.m.  Joining the band is local soul/folk/ska musicians Uma Galera. Cover is $10. On Saturday, Jan. 31 at The Stage,  it’s Mr. Pauer featuring TotoGonzalez and Daniella Bertoldi showcasing new sounds off the forthcoming album Orange along with special guest vocalists Maye Osorio and Manu Manzo, performing acoustically. If that wasn’t enough music to soothe your souls, Kiko de Gallo will add his mix of Latin funk, tropical bass and world electronica. On Sunday, Feb. 1, it’s football as usual.
