A Miami melange of martinis, shrimp, tacos, and silent discos

Shaken, Stirred and On Sale

Sooooo, turns out Sunday, June 19 isn’t just Father’s Day, but someone in a vermouth factory somewhere decided to declare it National Martini Day, which makes for two excellent excuses to shake, stir and toss back a few at The Raleigh South Beach, 1775 Collins Ave., where the venerable Martini Bar will offer a variety of ‘tinis for just $10. In addition to the classic of gin et al., there will also be some riffs on the classic such as The Vesper, a shaken, never stirred mix of gin, vodka and Cocchi Americano, or The Martinez with gin, vermouth, Maraschino liqueur and aromatic bitters, which will be the only thing bitter in the place on this festive night.

Boiling Up

For those complaining about Miami’s summer heat and humidity, cough, hop a flight to New Orleans and see how you like it. Bringing the Nola to Miami without that swampiness are Chefs Kurtis Jantz and Jeremiah Bullfrog, whose Old Bay All Day New Orleans-style shrimp boil Friday from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at 168 NW 26th St. in Wynwood will cool things off with food, drink and music. The shrimp boil promises all the ‘fixin’s’ as well as po’boys, beignets, cafe au lait and craft beer. There will be live music by Uncle Scotchy and friends. It’s free to enter, but as of this writing, a few of the sets were sold out. There are waiting lists and VIP tickets available here.

Sound Off

Unless you’re in a karaoke bar no one really loves to hear other people singing over the throbbing, pulsating sounds of a club soundtrack – especially if there are no words, which is likely the case if you’re at an EDM hot spot. Sometimes silence is, indeed, golden, especially when it’s part of The Wynwood Yard’s Sound Off Silent Disco, 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday, June 18 at 56 NW 29th St. There, you can trip the night fantastic in the garden to the tune of three DJs spinning your fave in hip hop, R&B, EDM, Latin and Top 40 hits through wireless Sound Off Headphones. This way, you can go from one genre to the next without skipping a beat, literally. If your BFF is wailing Pitbull next to you, you can just tune and trip out to your own sound. Ah, bliss. Tickets are $15 at the door.

Hyde on Fleek

Time flies when you’re having fun, especially if it’s at Hyde Beach at SLS South Beach, 1701 Collins Ave., which, from 11 p.m. until closing on Friday, June 17 is celebrating its four-year anniversary with a big, chic party. DJ Natty Rico will perform and Perrier-Jouet will flow. Those staying at the hotel can make a big production out of it all, with four upgrade options commemorating the occasion including room upgrade, free valet, two free cocktails at Hyde Beach or $25 dining credit. Overnight stay not required but recommended for those who plan to party like a four-year-old. Er, make that, at a four-year-old.

Taco Thursday

Tuesdays don’t have to be the only days to eat tacos. In fact, on Thursday, June 23, TacoCraft Taqueria &amp
; Tequila Bar celebrates its grand opening at 5829 SW 73rd St. in South Miami with a big party open to the public at 9 p.m. The free event will feature music by DJ Lucian White, $3 tacos and $5 margaritas all night long. The restaurant will also be offering a two-for-one happy hour from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday at which you can imbibe in over 150 types of tequila and mezcal. Of course, there will also be a Taco Tuesday special as well as Sunday brunch including free bottomless sangria and mimosas for the fairer sex. The Taqueria’s late night taco window will be open on weekends until 4 a.m.
